Rules

Africa’s Big Five can be played in two different play modes. On this page both will be explained in quick play format only. Complete rule book included in game.

Original Play Mode

 

 

  • Players choose their favourite animal and start on that animal main axes. Player with highest dice roll, start by rolling dice and moving spaces clockwise.
  • Landing on animal, take Q&A card and answer question regarding that square. Landing on Tree, choose any animal to answer (multi-choice). Landing on Snake, next players turn. Landing on Giraffe, take any Giraffe card (from 2 stacks on board) and perform action-animal charades.
  • Player keeps on playing till he answers wrong, land on Snake, do not perform animal action (according to fellow player) correct, gain a token or lose a token.
  • Tokens need to be collected, to win the game. Answering correctly on main axes, player gain that animal token.
  • Picking the correct Giraffe cards, players may gain or lose a token and by landing on the Waterhole, player may gain all tokens at Waterhole. All forfeited tokens must always be placed at Waterhole.

Additional Play Mode (12 Sided Dice)

  • Players choose their favourite animal and start on that animal main axes. Player with highest dice roll, start by rolling dice.
  • In secondary play mode players can move forward, backwards (up & down), clockwise and anti-clockwise.
  • Rolling 12 sided dice the following reference need to be used:

1 Giraffe                            7 Africa

2 Rhino                              8 Buffalo

3 Snake                              9 Waterhole

4 Lion                                10 Elephant

5 Tree                                11 Own Choice

6 Leopard                          12 Giraffe

  • Player move to nearest square indicated by number rolled and perform required game play. Example: Rolling 4 – need to move to the nearest Lion square and answer a question. Rolling 7 – need to move to the nearest Africa square and perform action, as indicated. Rolling 12 – need to move to the nearest Giraffe square and pick a Giraffe card. Rolling 9 – need to move to Waterhole. Rolling 11 – player can decide which one of the main axes they would like to move to.
  • Landing on animal, by rolling 2,4,6,8 or 10, take Q&A card and answer question regarding that square. Landing on Tree, by rolling 5, choose any animal to answer (multi-choice). Landing on Snake, by rolling 3, next players turn. Landing on Giraffe, by rolling 1 or 12, take any Giraffe card (from 2 stacks on board) and perform action-animal charades.
  • Player keeps on playing till he answers wrong, land on Snake, do not perform animal action (according to fellow player) correct, gain a token or lose a token.
  • Tokens need to be collected, to win the game. Answering correctly on main axes, player gain that animal token. Rolling 11, player can move to any main axes of their choosing, answer the question and gain token.

Easy Play Mode: Players must decide before starting game if easy play mode is in play. Original and Additional Play Mode may both be played in the easy play mode, except that 12 years and younger players my collect any six (disk) tokens, even double up on some and not have a full grid. Additional Play Mode the player then wins the game. In Original Play Mode first player landing in the middle (Waterhole) wins. Game will also finish quicker in easy play mode.
